- In 1850, eight men, who felt that the financial needs of the poor and middle classes should be better served, founded the bank. One employee handled all of the transactions, and there was a $400 cap on deposits. Within 15 years, deposits had grown to $250,000. By the '50s, they had reached $7 million. In the beginning, the Bank's community roots could be found in its leadership - two physicians, a bank cashier, a state legislator, the town physician, the ex-editor of the town newspaper and a member of the board of the local agricultural society. To this day, we remain an integral part of the community.
